Kief Collection Guide: Maximize Your Yield

What is Kief?

Kief consists of trichomes—the tiny crystal-like glands that cover herb flowers. These contain the highest concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes, making kief extremely potent.

How Grinders Collect Kief

4-piece grinders use a fine mesh screen between chambers. As you grind, trichomes break off and fall through the screen into the bottom kief catcher.

Maximizing Your Collection

1. Use the Freezer Method

Put your loaded grinder in the freezer for 30 minutes before grinding. Cold makes trichomes brittle—they'll break off more easily.

2. Add a Coin

Place a clean coin (dime or nickel) in your collection chamber. Shake after grinding—the coin knocks kief through the screen.

3. Grind Smaller Amounts

Don't overfill. Smaller loads allow material to move freely, improving trichome separation.

4. Use Properly Cured Material

Slightly dry herbs shed more trichomes. Overly moist material sticks together and clogs screens.

5. Keep Your Screen Clean

A clogged screen blocks kief. Freeze and brush regularly to maintain flow.

• Avoid humidity

Collection rates vary, but generally:

• About 10-15% of ground material becomes collectible kief
• 1-2 weeks of regular grinding yields a usable amount
• Higher quality herbs produce more trichomes
